Heat the oil in a flameproof casserole and cook the sausages and onion for 8-10 minutes until golden. Stir in the paprika, then allow to sizzle until aromatic.
Stir in the tomatoes, then half-fill the can with water and add to the pan. Stir in the stock pot, or crumbled cube, beans and apples, then bring to a simmer, cover and cook for 10 minutes, until the sausages are cooked through with no pink meat and the juices run clear. Check the seasoning. Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 190ºC, gas mark 5.
Spread the baguette slices thinly with the garlic butter. Overlap the bread, butter-side up, over the sausage and beans, then bake for 15-20 minutes until the top is crusty and golden brown. Serve immediately.
