Wasabi

Wasabi

Also known as Japanese horseradish (due to the similarity in flavour). Wasabi is a plant native to Japan and is one of the main flavourings in Japanese cuisine. The roots of the plant are made into a green paste and it is this paste that is most commonly available outside Japan and available in Waitrose. It has a very distinctive, pungent flavour and should be used sparingly.

Uses: Wasabi is used to flavour sushi and in soups, salad dressings and noodle dishes. Add gradually to recipes and taste until the desired taste is achieved.

To store: Keep in a cool, dark place and once opened store in the fridge for up to 1 year.
