A variety of fruit

Nashi pear

This fruit, which is also known as Asian pear, is a refreshing mixture of apples and pears, combining the shape and crispness of an apple with the speckled skin, grainy texture and flavour of a pear. Choose fruit that is heavy with a smooth skin. The skin is edible.

Uses: Serve raw, slightly chilled, with cheese and in sweet and savoury salads. They are also good baked in pies and other apple or pear desserts.

To store: Can be kept at room temperature for several weeks.

To prepare: Prepare and use nashi pears in the same way as you would apples - cut into quarters and remove the core then slice them thinly.
