Caraway seeds

Caraway seeds

The seeds of the caraway plant have been used as a spice for 5000 years. They have a subtle peppery aroma and a distinctive flavour, quite similar to fennel or aniseed. It is grown mainly in Holland but can be found all over Europe where caraway seeds and ground caraway are used widely, especially in German, Austrian and eastern European countries.

Uses: In a vast range of sweet and savoury dishes, from potato, cheese or cabbage-based recipes to breads, biscuits and cakes, including the traditional British seed cake. They are also included in gin and schnapps.
