Peanut butter

A nutty savoury spread which is made by roasting peanuts and then grinding them to make a paste. Different types of peanut butter are made according to how long the grinding process is - it may be stopped before a smooth paste is made to make crunchy peanut butter with chunks of nuts in. A variety of smooth and crunchy peanut butters are available from Waitrose including Waitrose Organic Smooth Peanut Butter and Waitrose Organic Crunchy Peanut Butter.

Uses: Spread on toast or in sandwiches. In America peanut butter and jelly (jam) sandwiches are very popular. Peanut butter can also be used as a basis for a simple satay sauce. It can also be added to risottos and dips to give a distinctive nutty flavour.

To store: Keep in a cool dark place and consume by the best before date.
